Whack ‘Em All: Cheap and Efficient Time “Whacker”

Whack ‘Em All! ($0.99; Free – Ad Supported)
This game is definitely one of the best pick and play, kid-friendly games the AppStore has to offer.

Let’s Get Whacking In Here!

The gameplay is very simple. You whack the moles and try to whack as many as you can in the given allotted time. What’s the catch?…well, try not to whack your friendly neighborhood cats! Different kinds of animals to whack get introduced as you progress in the game all the while bonus items (time pickups, special diamond points) are sprinkled here and there.

Tutorial + Powerups

The tutorial provides an efficient way of immersing the players into the game off the bat. It will ask you to whack a mole, shake your device to kill moles at once, and even hit an innocent looking cat (;p).

All these things are of an unbelievable low price of $0.99. You get a highly polished game that will surely keep you entertained while on the go.

The Moles Get Pirated

Piracy is always a battle these indie developers have to face each day. It also becomes more and more obvious that their greatest competitor is piracy among other things.

It is a little disappointing that a game which costs a measely $0.99 would get pirated and would leave no revenue to the developers.

Recently, the developers have been forced to release a free and ad supported version of their $0.99 cent game.

Some figures worth churning:

Average sales of paid app 1/17 through 1/20 (prior to release of free app): 9.0/day
Average sales of paid app 1/21 through 1/24 (after release of free app): 21.75/day

Total downloads of the free app to date: 23,010

We at The APPera sincerely hope this new strategy continuously bring revenue and success to Fairlady Media.

People dont want to pay money for a game they may not like and have NO way to get their money back.

So, if they bought this game and didnt like it, they would have NO recourse other than to either keep it and not play it or just delete it in which case they couldnt play it.

Even though 99 cents is a very small amount of money, people dont want to buy something they dont feel they will get any sastisfaction out of.

I think by releasing a lite version, like has been done here, allows people to “test” out if they would like the game without feeling like they wasted money.

After all, if one person bought 10 of these 99 cents games, that “ONLY” 99 cents no longer seems to be cheap.

Thats the reason why I tend to not buy any games I cant test out or at least play once before I decide to buy it. This not only applies to games but also to anything I buy from the App. store.
