SGN has brought us Golf, Bowling, Baseball and Basketball already with it’s innovative use of the iPhone’s accelerometer. Some of those games remind us of the Wii Sports games. When we saw those, we knew it’s only a matter of time ’til we find a pretty effective Mii (Wii Avatar’s) creator as well.

eMees Avatar Creator ($0.99)
We were frankly surprised SGN missed this one or SMALLMEDIUM just beat them to the punch. The app for what it can currently do, possesses a lot of features at par with the Wii’s Mii Creator. SMALLMEDIUM decided to call it eMees and frankly, we don’t care what the name is because the app is just wonderful. It’s simply fun and amazing how the app’s UI and features exploit the iPhone’s small screen.
Menu Layout and Navigation
First and foremost, we will be using screenshots of the eMees we created ourselves. We are big fans of LOST and thus we decided to go with Jack and Kate as our examples. Please respect the artist’s vision on this one (We decided not to include photos of what Jack and Kate really look like so you think we’re art geniuses). With that aside, here are Jack and Kate in the Create Tab:

The very top scrollable menu are the body parts and accessories you can choose from: face shape, face details (wrinkles), mustache, glasses, eyes etc. The second menu are the different types of the parts. What you do is you swipe the eMee to change the types. The menu below the eMees are some adjustments to be made on a specific part type. For example, the whale can be used to make the body parts smaller or larger. The rainbow button can be used to change skin tone or hair color.
Posable eMees
In this screenshot below, you’d see Jack skateboarding. There are currently only three built in poses but the developers are promising there are more to come.
Optimization Problems
The first version of the app wasn’t as optimized as you’d like it to be. A scroll takes a couple of seconds and it’s not very usable. However, within days of first version release, SMALLMEDIUM was able to correct most of the optimization problems and made it ten folds faster through an update. This earns SMALLMEDIUM our respect. It shows that they are backing their app 100% and are more than ready to please their customers.
Contact Full of eMees
Applying the eMees should be a breeze with the apps built in Set as Contacts Caller ID which can be accessed by going to Gallery and selecting your eMee, clicking on the Right arrow and the option below should pop up. Once there, select Set as Contacts Caller ID and select the person you want to assign your eMee and you’re done!
Some Suggestions Down The Road
Add More Hairstyles. We need more hairstyles especially for the females. Also maybe set the option to only show girly styles when you select female and the same goes with the Male selections.
Add A Help Screen. We need some page where you guys actually explain what each button means. Although most of the buttons are to be understood with intuition, we still think this should be standard on all games and apps.
Ability to Manipulate Poses. Currently the eMees are immovable in their poses. We would like to zoom in and out of their poses, move them a little bit to the right or left or even add colors to the background.
Bodies. We need bodies! We need customizable body shape and size. Some cool gear to put on etc.
The app at $0.99 is a great steal. Further down the road with all the improvements SMALLMEDIUM is currently trying to implement, you might miss out on a lot if they decide to raise the price. With it’s lovely interface and features all we can say is: Oh eMees! You had us at hello.
