As the weekend comes to a close, we’ll take a look at this kid friendly and endearing popular puzzler.

Bobby Carrot Forever ($7.99)
What happens when you port a popular game to the iPhone? What happens when you combine puzzler plus platformer together? Bobby Carrot Forever answers both questions plus more. It is an addicting game equipped with stunning graphics and awesome soundtrack. It also doesn’t hurt that Bobby has a widespread appeal particularly to children. FDG Entertainment wised up and saw the lack of kid friendly games, thus Bobby Carrot Forever.
Gameplay
The gameplay is quite simple. You direct Bobby throughout the field to gather and dig up his carrots and eventually guide him to the finish line. You control him by touching the four edges of your screen (with the updated mode a second swipe control option has been added!!!). As you progress in the game, rabbit traps, dragon fire balls, switches, locks keys, lotus leafs etc are introduced.

When the map gets a little too difficult to navigate around, simply tap the center of the screen which provides an overview of the whole map. Very accessible way to re-orient yourself with the map.

Puzzler + Platformer Rolled Into One
The game does a great job of slowly increasing difficulty level as you progress. You start slow with just collecting coins and carrots. At later levels, you find yourself needing oil to operate a tractor or a key to open locked gates. Strategy becomes main focus in the game and may require multiple trial and errors from the gamer to complete a level.
Although not a platformer in the utmost technical sense of the word, we still think the word applies to the game; Simply because the controls and the graphics seem well suited for the iPhone. OR FDG just made great choices as they ported the game over. We think it’s both, and we credit FDG for that.
The Round Up
We definitely enjoyed the game from bottom up. It’s a great quality game. FDG is an established mobile dev company long before the iPhone came to be so we expected epicness, and they delivered. The tutorial and load screens are top notch as well. Not to mention, the soundtrack that just grabs you by the neck and is responsive to Bobby’s current state (death, riding a tractor etc).
The game definitely needs a PAUSE button though. For one, we can’t quit the game and return to the main menu without having to close the game. As it stands though, and for the enjoyment you’ll receive, the game is worth more than 7 bags of carrots at the nearby dollar store.
…this game even lands on our list of most innovative iPhone games, Forever!
