Topple 2: Stacks Up New Features

Ever got a little PO’d when the original Topple came with only 9 levels?! Fret no more, the most awaited sequel arrives with a whole lotta levels and a bunch of new features.

Topple 2 ($2.99 - Intro Price)

The tetris shaped puzzle pieces with a huge variety of reactions far more than what Pattinson in Twilight can muster, is back alive and kicking! It features new modes such as Upside Down, Power Stack and Balancer AND new features like Golden Egg, freeplay mode, ghost challenge mode, and wifi versus mode. Trust us, there ARE reasons why Ng:Moco is charging $2.99 for this game and not just a free update to the original.

What You Lookin’ At?!

Certainly, the blue Topple icon has become one of the most renowned icons in the store. For Topple 2, Ng:Moco changes the color to yellow but retains the same exact smug face. If you’ve played Topple before, you’d know that the pieces react to their surrounding by smiling, panicing, smart ass-y faces… you get the point:

Whole New Worlds

You can find the whole map here. Basically, there are 6 unique worlds with 30 levels total. The design is presented bright and clean, signature ‘Moco style:

A la Modes

In the original Topple, it only came with one mode which is simply stacking tetris shaped puzzle pieces as it drops down from the skies. You drag, rotate and tilt the shapes. You then have to keep stacking and maintaining stack balance up to a certain height to move on. There are bonus lines in which you can double, tripple, quadruple and quintuple your scores.

Topple 2 boasts a LOT more modes in an effort to make every level refreshing. It alternates regular, upside down, power stack, and balancer modes. One of our personal favorites is the upside down mode:

As you guessed it, instead of stacking the pieces up, you stack down. Sounds silly eh? Well how about we tell you the world is underwater? Pretty neat huh, and realistic.

We have only gone as far as world 4 and we haven’t unlocked the worlds that present power stack and balancer modes:

…so we’ll let you Ng:Moco describe what these two modes are:

Balance mode lets you weigh two towers against each other. Power Tower mode challenges you to build a power line using conductive blocks.

Extra and Usual ‘Mocos

There’s also a rescue mode to finish worlds off so we call it “boss battles”. The object of this mode is to stack up to a certain height to reach a golden egg:

You then try to bring the egg down carefully to the main platform by popping the stacked power pieces. If the egg, remains uncracked, you get an achievement unlocked. And yes, achievements are implemented, a ‘Moco stipulation.

Ng:Moco has also added a wifi versus, free play and challenge modes. Challenge mode through email is probably the most interesting feature in which the game saves a “ghost state” of your game which then can be sent to your friend and they can accept the challenge at their expense:

A Paid UPDATE??!?!?!?!?!?!

Yeah, we hear strong cries from outraged gamers crying foul over this paid update. But seriously?!? with all the features and changes we’ve just told you, you still question the price? Obviously, if you aren’t a fan of the original or Ng:Moco, do NOT buy this one if you’re whining about the price. Just get any of the $0.99 games/apps (Airport Mania, Word Fu etc).

At $2.99, we even feel that it is a great introductory for the price for the game. As for the anti-Topple 2, don’t worry, we hear Topple is getting an update too.

As far as suggestions go, the “level” on the bottom and on the sides are gone. Also, we’re puzzled as to how the cute mini animation at the beginning isn’t quitable just as any Ng:Moco animation is. We have to wait like 5 seconds ’til we get to the main menu.

Overall, we can’t suggest Topple enough if you have more than $0.99 to spend. You WON’T feel cheated.

PS. You also get a shower of confettis after each level. Confettis are cool you know!
