Are you craving for something unique or frightening? Look no further as with Bulkypix’s first iPhone game release offers heaps of both. Get situated in a story where you’d have to use all of your senses to succeed. Frightening scenes, eery sounds and life or death choices… are you going to survive?

Get Me Out Of Here!!!

As we previewed before,  Hysteria Project is an audio and film adventure for the iPhone. It’s reminiscent of those Sega FMV games we used to play as little kids. You start off tied in a cabin:

Bloodied hand print logos pop up in different locations on screen and you’re supposed to tap them to un-tie yourself. You then try to figure out what the hell is going on, and how exactly you’re going to pull of an escape. Enough spoilers, just play the game.

Simply put… Hysteria Project is somewhat of an interactive movie puzzler where doing A leads to B leads to death or some other combination. Once in a while, the game gives you a couple of actions to perform. Each action has a consequence which either leads to your death or to another option:

Your character starts wandering around a gloomy forest. Pay the slightest attention to every detail and sound as this may lead you (or at least give hints) to what action to take:

Once in a while, your character looks back and sees the derailed killer behind him:

It is suggested to play the game with headphones on, and we agree. It’s much more intense and surreal with it on. Simple sound changes and flying smoke monsters (What up LOST!) sure provide you some genuine goosebumps.

When you die, you are able to restart from the last save point. This is the point where the game last asked you to choose an action.

Conclusion

Obviously, these little movie clips with some little multiple choice options type of gameplay would not appeal to some. Truth of the matter is that you really can’t play and finish the game without dying at least once. The game involves trial and error and analysis of hints given to you. What seems obvious may not seem obvious at first look.

Hysteria Project is rather short. New paid episodes are already underway. For $1.99, you really need to download the game and try to see what it’s all about. The game is of high production value and a highly commendable atmosphere Bulkypix has managed to build around it.

Whatever you do, just make sure you don’t see this:
