IGN has just released some information regarding the upcoming Gameloft title for the iPhone: Assasin’s Creed.
The news first leaked out about a month ago when details of another Gameloft iPhone title Terminator Salvation hit the internets.
IGN relays:
As the master assassin Altair you must explore the bustling metropolises of the Holy Land to uncover “The Chalice,” a sacred artifact held by the Templars. According to your superiors at The Order of the Assassins, stealing the Chalice has the potential to end the Crusades. (How the Chalice fits into the entire story about the Crusades is not going to be spoiled here — but it’s a story well worth exploring, especially if you played through the final scenes of Assassin’s Creed on the Xbox 360, PS3, or PC.)

Altair Chronicles for DS?
The gameplay does sound like Altair Chronicles for DS, which is a prequel to the 360/PS3 versions of the franchise. If we are made to choose, we’d compare Altair Chronicles’ gameplay to Gameloft’s Hero of Sparta (Review). We also remember the DS version having minigames and guess what?! iAC comes with it as well, as IGN writes:
The minigames from the DS version also make the jump to the iDevices. When Altair needs to pick a pocket, you must physically drag the desired item (a key, for example) out of the target’s purses without touching any other object. When Altair interrogates a suspect, you tap pressure points on the target to elicit information. You must tap the spots with the rhythm to get the job done.
There are lots of discussions surrounding this latest turn of events. It looks like a lot of people expected more from Gameloft to develop a whole new game/engine for the iPhone instead of a port of what they used for the DS version.
What do you think? Will you be buying this? No pricing and release date options have been announced but expect this game to be part of the Premium AppStore supposedly launching this summer. How much are you willing to pony up for this?

By Premium AppStore, what exactly do you mean?
Anyway, i think the not so amazing graphics in this version make me want to play less, while in the xbox 360 version the graphics made me play the whole game through a few times (even if it did get repetitive)
Premium AppStore is basically an AppStore where Apps will be sold no less than $20 and will have stricter approval process whatever that means.
This allows the big big companies to port over Bioshock, Assassin’s Creed etc.
