Super Yum Yum 3 ($4.99)

Those who fell in love with Bobby will feel right at home and should adopt Leon the Chameleon stat! Super Yum Yum 3 is a funky puzzler with a well balanced difficulty and challenge. In the game, you need to guide Leon to eat all the colored fruits and save all his younglings. The catch? Well Leon only eats fruits of his current color. He also changes colors to whatever color the fruit’s stem he just ate. Sounds like fun? You bet!

Control + Design

Another visitor from Mobile phones ports, Super Yum Yum 3 has been enhanced to fully maximize and utilize the iPhone’s graphics and controls capacity. The colors are much brighter, and point and tap controls work flawlessly for Leon. You simply point then tap where you want him to go, and he’ll run right to it. He doesn’t move too fast nor slow, just at the right pace:

Super Yum Yum 3 also enables zoom in and out features within the level selector and the levels itself by pinch and drag which is a nice feature:

Let’s Get Leon Full!

The goal of the game is to try and eat up all fruits, and save Leon’s kids at the same time. You start the app with colorful animated videos then to the profile selector. Yes! Multiple profiles are present. After that, you’re then taken to the level selector which is pretty interactive and acts the same way as the levels itself:

You then go to any of the arcs and double tap on it to enter and play within that level:

Once in game, you have to strategically analyze the best route Leon can take to maximize the fruits he can eat. He changes colors with whatever fruit stem he just ate and will only eat a fruit of his current color. You simply drag Leon and to the fruit you want him to eat. He sticks his tongue out and boom, Leon eats the whole fruit:

The game pretty much stays like that for the 2 worlds we have played (and we assume for the rest of the game). Certain elements to make the game more exciting are added like the Chili which lets Leon eat any fruit color:

The levels get bigger and more complicated as you progress including trying to save more than one of Leon’s kiddos. Each world section is comprised of three levels. You have to meet a certain fruit quota before you can unlock the next section. You simply tap the scale bar looking button where the game judges if Leon has eaten enough fruit (Note: Not all fruits need to be eaten to advance).

Each world is divided into three sections making it total of 9 levels per world. We’ve managed to advance ourselves to the second world and the game still isn’t getting boring nor looking like it will anytime soon.

There are also mini games you have to perform before you can jump to the next world like the one below:

In this specific mini game, you need to watch for the moving black bar (top left of screen) and make sure you tap the foot button (bottom right) while the line is within the yellow bar. What this does is it kicks the Leonites to the pineapple. After you’ve kicked all you kids to the pineapple, you then repeat the same thing only this time, you try to decrease the green bar’s numbers from 144 to 0 by tapping again.

Suggestions

  • Provide Better Help. We had to repeat the mini game above from not knowing or introduced to what was needed to be carried out.
  • Mini Games Collection. Maybe add more mini games or a mode just for mini games. That’d make it more fun.
  • Track Move Statistics. Score levels per the number of steps taken to complete a level? Have online scoreboards! That fun online stuff.
  • Draw Route Marks? Not too sure about this one, but it would be awesome if we could go back and view the path we took to complete a level.

Conclusion

Get it! Super Yum Yum 3 is a strong title for the iPhone and one of the best puzzlers for it. The game play is easy to pick up, and it does not get boring. The difficulty is lesser to Bobby Carrot Forever’s so far on the amount of levels we’ve played. The sounds and cute little gulping effects Leon does is totally addicting and awesome.

Download the game before we sing… Karma karma karma chame-leee-ooon. Oh wait! We just did.
