We showed y0u a very interesting video yesterday, let’s now find out and dissect the app…

Ballerina ($0.99)
The iPhone, as we know it, is a home of some very cool and interesting toys ranging from Pocket God to Koi Pond. Raptured Lines Ballerina attempts to brave some waters and offer a toy with hologram effect. The haunting music and presentation are someting to be seen already, but is the hologram effect working?
Trick or Treat?
Short Answer: No… and Yes. Long Answer: The Ballerina video shows full holographic effect. That is because it was being filmed by one camera or more technically, one eye. Humans have Stereo Vision. We have two eyes so we see two separate views which leads to the failure of Balerina’s holographic effect. BUT these tips they tell you when you fire the app sure helps:

Even more important they forgot to include: close one of your eyes AND Ballerina shines through best at low light conditions. To call this is a work around is unfair and ridiculous because there’s nothing Raptured Lines can do to change our vision. If you don’t want the hassle of closing an eye and playing in low light conditions, you’ll see the app in full 3D just as the effect applied to Topple 2 and Boom Dice (the engine used in Topple 2). Add the outstanding animations and Ballerina’s elements sensitivity to motion plus the music, Ballerina is still something to be seen. Although, we really would want you to close one eye and force yourself to see the holographic effect it can produce (with some work)!
Ballerina Dance
The app opens up with the tips page above. It will then animate the name Ballerina and you see these little curvy lines come out of nowhere slowly and grow by numbers. Stars, swans, and the ballerina get added one after the other:

This is on top of the haunting soundtrack that builds up as you see these elements show up. Once everything shows up, this is the final version:

As we said earlier, Ballerina is rather ultra sensitive to motion so a little move to the left or right changes the view of the Ballerina which we thought was excelent:

The stars and moon dangle left to right as well as you play around with Ballerina.
Video
None of the screenshots can explain what Ballerina really is so if you haven’t watched it, here’s the video again:
Conclusion
There is no developer trickery/con-nery on Raptured Lines’ side. They want to make a toy that is nothing we’ve seen before and is a piece of art. Straight from Raptured Lines’
The goal of the program is to simply relax and create a dreamy magical atmosphere for the viewer… we see it as a little piece of art. There will be an update in about 3 weeks from now that will add some more interactivity to the app. We don’t plan on adding any kind of customization simply because that would work against our goal. Our approach is to let the app “customize itself” so to speak.
Some suggestions include having a little “i” button or similar to access settings where we can turn off the intro videos. It’s a little too much having to see it everytime you fire up the app.
For the adventurous and if you think the screenshots and video are cool, you should go ahead and download the app. For $0.99, it’s a cool little toy. We feel like we aren’t disclosing any information we should have. We’ve told you everything straight up. It’s up to you to decide whether to download this or not.
