My Take

Holy Crap!  Quality apps from independent developers never cease to amaze me.  It’s a game where there’s not much to learn, but plenty to accomplish, with a hint of haste as you try to beat the clock.  Hey, it’s mad skills under pressure, and the whole world gets to try and beat your score.  Sweet.

Presentation

Graphics are outstanding and perfect for the screen size. The building perspectives are a nice touch to give the game some depth, in a Lego city kind of way.   I shouldn’t judge a game by the user interface, but it does give some kind of telltale of what to expect through the rest of the game.  That being said, it’s consistent throughout the game and simple to navigate through.  Even though I own a lot of apps and I have to sort through some crap, Taxiball deserves to be pushed to the top, it’s crazy tilting fun.

Gaming Cross-Reference

As stated it’s a accelerometer Labyrinth in the method of Crazy Taxi, but with a top view GTA 1 or 2 viewpoint.  I did own a Dreamcast at one time (it died) and Crazy Taxi was a title frequently played.  A part of Taxiball I feel it’s quite the same is the time lapse and stopping on a dime at the destination. Only I am able to look ahead with the top view, it’s basically the same game but on a smaller scale.

Game Play

Objectively, you are a giant yellow pinball, ricocheting through out a tightly based city, toting people (and dogs) from point A to point B in a specific length of time, usually in a haste.  Ok I just explained Crazy Taxi.  The difference being is the terrain you, the giant yellow pinball is on, causes the variable and fluctuating difficulty.  Also the destination points aren’t always the same size either and sometimes partially hidden.  So on top of tilting through the streets, avoiding obstacles and so on, you have to adjust your tilt method to what’s under the ball.  That would include grass, ice, asphalt, and uphill/downhill pointing arrows depicting a slope or an incline.

Beyond the game play is the in-game awards awaiting for you to unlock such as n00b Cabbie Award up through an Untouchable Award.  Expect some good natured sarcasm, but it’s good stuff to lighten your day. What game isn’t good without a global online leaderboard?  Yeah I’m ranking really low compared to some of the players who posted.  Speaking of players, there is the ability to make a friends list, that means you can compete with your friends and have a customized leaderboard built around friendly competition!

The Cons

I’m happy to say there’s none. I say this only because future updates will be major ones with more cities and features as the game gets more and more users.  It’s has been ran through with a fine tooth and comb eliminating any gremlin that destroys our precious gametime.

Conclusion

Ok if you are not convinced yet, there is a free version of this app. It’s so much fun without complications and silly controls. We have plenty of that in real life.  Take a trip with Taxiball, and you’ll thank TheAPPera.com for uncovering this gem for you!
