For some reason, there’s quite a ton of pick and play games on the store involving jumping. This one further improves its already proven twists and turns to the genre by adding an easter egg. This easter egg is probably one of the greatest marketing moves ever securing one of the most recognizable iPhone creatures to date. Find out what this easter egg and why this game is well, great!

Easter Egg

I can reveal now that the ever cute and adorable pygmies from Pocket God makes a surprise appearance in this game. If you don’t want to play with the default Doodle Jump character, simply use and enter the name of one of the Pocket God default names (i.e. Ooga) and off you go!

Presentation

To this day, I feel like every game genre should have doodle adaptation. It just gives the game an outright unique atmosphere to it. The crumpled papers and notebook design just lends a different face to the game. Doodle Jump is no different having successfully executed a paper background complete with handrawn like graphics.

Gameplay

The game is simple and very easy to pick up. If you’ve played Papi Jump or Kitten Jump before then you already know what you’re getting into. For those of you new to this genre, the goal of the game is to reach the highest height you can attain. You do this by jumping off paddles using accelerometer controls.

However, Doodle Jump goes three steps further by adding enemies (monsters, paper holes, destructible paddles), having an infinite left and right field and adding springs. In Doodle jump, you are actually required to avoid monsters and holes. If you’re playing as a Pocket God pygmy, you shoot coconuts through these monsters. One other feature are the destructible paddles (brown ones) meaning you can’t stay on these things. Otherwise, you fall and die.

Most importantly, Doodle Jump lets you go off the right side of screen and back on the left (and reverse). This can be either a good or bad thing, but we definitely think it’s a good thing for added difficulty.

Suggestions

There’s only one suggestion I can really think of :

• Touch control: I’m sorry if I have missed it  but I don’t seem to have this control option. I sort of understand why touch can’t be implemented (going off edges of the screen), but I still think this should be added for more casual gamers.

Conclusion

Doodle Jump succeeds at its goal to be a flawless pick and play game. Facebook connect and pause functions even further improve the game. And of course, we can’t even praise Lima Sky enough to securing some official Pocket God assets and animations for Doodle Jump. This alone opens up a whole new window for them to acquire Pocket God fans.

Personally speaking, I like playing with a pygmy a lot more as I think they just fit with the game, and this is NOT a bad thing. Doodle Jump is perfect for those times you want simple and unaltered fun!
