Master Jumperton Review: Jump Freely… Literally

As the second title out of Muteki Corp’s homemade series, they look to achieve Battle of Pirate Bay success… in the skies.

Well how about that!Talking about having a diverse pool of games, if Pirate Bay was all about the seas, Master Jumperton is about the big blue skies. The game takes a bite out of the Doodle/Kitten Jump pie, but with one twist! You draw your own paddles.

Presentation

The colors picked for Master Jumperton look a couple shades lower than with Pirate Bay. The graphics look more finished as compared to their first homemade game. I appreciate the fact and effort to give their games distinct look and feel.

Control

There’s just one control scheme. You draw your own paddles (by touch) where Mr Jumperton can jump off of. No tilt controls, blowing off pirate ships, none of that. Just pure how high can you go before you fall… by drawing your own platforms.

Gameplay

Other than drawing your own paddles, Master Jumperton pretty much remains true to its genre. It’s a simple pick and play game where you attempt and beat your previous high score.

Oh! Besides shooting for the highest height, you can also collect coins to shoot for best score. Along the way, blimps and balloons start to distract you, and you must try to avoid them as much as you can.

Suggestion

The lines you draw seem to be out of sync with the whole graphics. I figure a little brushed up cloud line should do the trick.

Also, where is the next update feature survey you implemented with Pirate Bay. I think that needs to be ported to Jumperton as well. It’s a nice structure and all future games should have it. It gives the consumers a better sense of where you’re planning to take the game. **UPDATE: Muteki confirmed this is coming in version 2!**

Conclusion

It’s a simple game and heck, it’s $0.99. It’s pretty fun and if you’re tired of Doodle and Kitten Jump, it’s a nice alternative. Muteki attempts to tweak the genre. While it gets pretty challenging, who doesn’t need a challenge every now and then?

  • I’m happy to say that the 1.1.0 update to Master Jumperton went live today. Not only does it include the Vote! option in the main menu to let players shape the fate of the Sharpest Dressed Ball of Orange ever to face the iPhone, but also new Ink Bottle powerups (to help make the game a bit easier as you get higher up), and much more dynamic looking lines, that fall away after Master Jumperton bounces off of them!
