The Moron Test ($0.99)

After all these years, the saying “don’t judge the book by its cover” still rings true. This game is something I always looked down upon just because I never got it, and why it’s clamored upon by many people. Read on and I’ll force you not to make the same mistake.

Who’s A Moron Now?

Some of you might have played one of those flash games and ask you to be stupid. By stupid I mean it’ll ask you absurd questions, and you’re supposed to pick the wrong-est answer. The Moron Test isn’t that. It gives  you a boatload of tricky questions, but you’ll always shoot for the correct answer. The answer may not be as direct or obvious as it seems but that’s where exactly the game’s attractiveness comes from.

Ever heard of trick questions? The questions try to outsmart you from the beginning, but as you go, you’ll learn to adapt.

Presentation

Before I even bought and played the game, it’s artwork is something I’ve been impressed with. I even thought maybe that’s why it’s so popular among these “quiz games”. The background is sort of like a decolorized notecard. Contrast that with rich and bright colors, and you’ll get The Moron Test.

While the background look old and plain, the game counteracts that with flashy looking buttons and objects that make them really pop out.

Gameplay

The object of the game is simple: answer about 15-20 trick questions in the fastest amount of time to complete the game. It’s one of those games that can substitute a classic game of beer pong (NO to underage drinking!).

Since the game is timed, you’re forced to quickly pick an answer. It’ll drive you absolutely insane when you miss a question. Don’t fret though, you’ll get three “back to checkpoints” cards before you get sent all the way from the beginning.

The Moron Test is a game of repetition. You’ll probably go through the game 50 times or so until you get to the end of the line. After getting there, you can submit your score through FaceBook connect.

You can always dare your friends to beat your own score. Or if you’re bored and got nothing else to do, the game is perfect to pick up and beat your own score.

Suggestion

May we please removed the “UPDATED” text on the iPhone dock icon? Just a little fetish of mine. Also, can you possibly add some more questions every update. It really does prolong the lifetime of the game. Lastly, can you provide per checkpoint fastest scores. Sort of like make it laps scores. And while you’re really at it, I think Twitter-able scores would be fun too.

On the gameplay end however, it’d be interesting if the questions get rotated around. Or how about if the position of the objects get randomized as you play the game. For example, whatever was on the left, reverse it to the right. Switch things up a bit.

Conclusion

Learn people! Play the game first before judging. The Moron Test is a really fun game. It gets sweeter if you play it with friends. I know I’ve been one of the people that frowned upon the game, and the game proved myself wrong. Try it! You’ll never regret it. You’ll become a fan in no time!
