I thought the EDGE by Mobigame vs Langdell would be the last epic copyright battle we’ll see, but I woke up to news that Codeminion’s StoneLoops of Jurassica! has indeed been pulled.
Who do you think wanted it pulled? Why yes! Point your fingers to MumboJumbo and Luxor. This is some seriously messed up sh%t!

The talk between Apple, MumboJumbo and Codeminion took some weeks which are all detailed in this post. I’ll save you some of the theatrics, but MumboJumbo used the copyright card on Codeminion and Apple let it be.
What Is Better?
First of all, let’s establish who’s the better game between the two: StoneLoops! Of Jurassica by a mile! If you hadn’t know Luxor was the original, you’d think it was the clone. From StoneLoops’ music to art and overall presentation, Luxor is dead in the water.
What Were The Grounds For Pulling The Game?
First MumboJumbo suggested Codeminion stole the game’s look and feel! Then they mentioned about the word Luxor being in one of the quotes of StoneLoops’ AppStore description.
The users were able to input “Luxor” in the iTunes search field and StoneLoops! was one of the returned results. Of course Luxor was still the first result. This was because the game description featured several excerpts from game reviews. The one which caused the “problem” was a citation from GameZebo - “more than worthy match for even more established industry goliaths like Zuma and Luxor…”.
Codeminion then said that they’ll remove this quote and what does Apple do? They seem to agree with the decision but rather they asked MumboJumbo if that wasn’t enough? Of course not! You’d want to get rid of your competition!
Codeminion In Defense
You can read it all on Codeminion’s blog but they cite many points in their defense of Apple’s decision:
- The game has existed on the PC and Mac for years before the game came to iPhone
- StoneLoops was showed to MumboJumbo so they can publish it for the iPhone, but they never responded or shown interest.
- What will MumboJumbo do once and if Popcap releases Zuma?
Point of the matter is, MumboJumbo didn’t expect the iPhone scene to take off as much as it did today otherwise they would have wanted StoneLoops published. StoneLoops is obviously ahead of their game and they annihilated the competition when the PC or Mac versions are left untouched.
What Now?
Codeminion will try and get the game back to the store, and I sure hope that happens. It doesn’t change the fact that this is a beech move on MumboJumbo’s part. Good luck to Codeminion, we hope to see you again.
Editor’s Note: StoneLoops is published by PlayCreek and developed by Codeminion. MumboJumbo is unreachable at this time for comments.
