Super Monkey Ball 2 iPhone Releases December: What Took So Long?

SEGA is finally making a comeback after the sh1tteous port of Sonic the Hedgehog. This time they’ll be bringing the sequel to one of the AppStore’s flagship games (Super Monkey Ball)… Super Monkey Ball 2 (doh!)!

IGN got exclusive info and screens from SEGA which we will rehash and decrypt for you. Are you excited for this sequel?

Controls Still A Problem?

There’s not even a question that the original’s control scheme had all sorts of wicked problems. From unresponsiveness to laggy-ness to being just pure SCREWED UP!

All that changes with the sequel as SEGA deemed this to be the biggest problem with the original… HALLELUJAH! At least they admit to it. To prove they’re even more serious this time around, they brought in another developer Other Ocean for the sequel.

What’s New?

There will be 115 stages and 5 new themes inspired by the Wii game Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz. Mini games are also in order…

Meanwhile, SMB2 will also launch with mini-games, the first of which is Monkey Bowling. Both Monkey Golf and Monkey Target (my personal favorite) will become available via free downloads in early February of next year

Price And Release

SEGA promises the game to be competitively priced which to our calculations puts it at around $7.99. The game HAS ALREADY been submitted and should be out really soon.

See there folks!? SEGA loves you and might even have an early Thanksgiving present for y’all! Excited yet?

Other Ocean actually developed both the first one and the second one… and the article doesn't actually address the "What took so long?" question, which is what I was wondering about since, although I like SMB2 a lot, to me it doesn't seem like a very big leap over the first one. It does crash less though! :)
