Depict Review Quickie: Fun iPhone Pictionary (FREE As Well!)

**The game’s FREE! Please download it, so I have people to play with!**

Since I shamefully forgot to tell you about the Plus+ enabled Charadium that went free the other day, I’m super elated to find a similarly awesome pictionary-like game for the iPhone. Here’s Makeshift Games’ Depict which they’re offering free limited time!

The game is also a 8bit graphics charmer on top of it being the ultimate fully ONLINE multiplayer pictionary game. There are two game “modes”: identify pre-drawn drawings OR draw something and let your opponents guess it.

We’ll discuss the game some more as well as draw some comparison with Charadium.

Depict Vs Charadium

I think I could have easily titled this section Plus+ vs OpenFeint. Depict is OF supported while Charadium is Plus+. Both have fairly huge followings and the discussion between Plus+ vs OpenFeint should be saved for another day.

Picture charades is the name of the game. Compared to Charadium, Depict also boasts some pre-drawn drawings in which the goal is to identify the correct answer as soon as possible. Points are awarded to how fast you identify the object regardless if it’s pre-drawn or not.

Drawing In 8Bit

As far as drawing objects is concerned, you get points in relation to how fast someone identifies your drawing. I’m a little wary of the 8bit graphics compared to Charadium’s free-form drawing because seeing the pixels all blown up adds another layer of confusion to the players.

Quickified

Depending on the mood I’m in, say I’d like more of a challenge in 8Bit than freeform charades, I’ll play Depict. I haven’t fully enjoyed the game since there are LESS people playing here than Charadium, so PLEASE DOWNLOAD THIS GAME NOW!

The game launched at $0.99 but I felt launching at free would have been a better choice which they are correcting now. Let’s build some player-base and outdraw and out-identify each other!

After playing a 4 hour Charadium marathon, Depict was a relaxing experience. Only 1 hand required, and the multiple choice approach is great :)

The 8bit graphics actually help in the long run, since players are forced to REALLY simplify their designs.

Graphics aside, i think the main difference would be the lack of chat in Depict. You can vote and whistle/report a player to let them know what they did wrong, but nothing else really..

Hey, thanks for the review and the kind words! I'm sure you've noticed there are a lot more people playing now that it's free.

Don't forget that another form of social interaction is changing your avatar to express your mood.

    Have fun everyone!

I like sketchonline better than charadium
s-o shows you who is saying what.
and charadium often skips my turn to draw
