Flipt Review: Delightful Puzzler No Matter Which Way You Flip It!

It was only a matter of time ’til a puzzle comes along and makes use of the accelerometer controls, and now it has…

Flipt ($2.99)

Well :Shift: is really the first to do the flipping puzzle thing, but sure another (colored) game doesn’t hurt. Flipt is a puzzle game where figuring out which way to flip and transport your player is key. How is it? It’s surprisingly fun to say the least.

Presentation

The graphics in the game aren’t anything extraordinary to be honest. The game is set in a underground subway like area. Though the graphics don’t deliver a wow factor they are decent enough.

One thing I found the game was lacking was sound. Though I normally don’t care much about sound in a game, guess I’ve been taken that for granted. The game has no music and little sound effects. Though I usually don’t care much for sound I hope they add some sort of techno music and more sound effects.

Controls

The controls are fairly easy to get a grasp on. If you’ve played Shift you already probably know how to play. Tap either side of the screen to go that way, and then tap the opposite while moving to jump. You flip the device to “flip” the level.

Game Play

The purpose of the game is to get to the exit, though doing this gets harder and harder. Not only must you avoid all the obstacles but you must figure out your way though the maze-like levels. When you turn your iDevice 180* degrees your world “flips” so to speak, making what was once under your floor your new floor.

Not only do you have to make it to the exit, but you have to be on the right axis as the exit to complete the level. Though the number of levels in Flipt is a bit small, you won’t really notice because like me you’re likely to get stuck. A lot. So I’d say about 2hrs of gameplay.

Suggestions

I’d love it if there were a option to have the flipping taken care of using a button instead of the accelerometer. Because it’s just easier when in bed and there are no mistakes with the game thinking I flipped even though I did not.

I also wish that I could die. LOL let me explain. The game has these detonators for bombs. I can stand on these and won’t die. I can fall or jump down from a really high platform and won’t die unless I land on a obstacle. So it would be more realistic if I had to be careful. And if possible that some sound fx are added as well as music and levels.

Conclusion

It’s a fun puzzler that will meet your need for brain challenging fun. So if you’re into these game try it out, it’s pretty good.
