Fallen EP-1 Review: Nasty, Gritty And PERFECTLY Horrifying!

Who doesn’t like a good ol nasty horror fest film? By the tremendous success of Paranormal Activity, I think the answer is ALL OF US!

Fallen EP-1 ($1.99 - On Sale)

Fallen is the beginning of what we think is an epic action game which is SERIOUSLY NOT for the faint of heart. It’s so nasty and gritty it compares to those ultimately gory movies (like SAW) to make up one thrilling game!

Presentation

Nasty!!!! In a good way anyways. Fallen is a horror escape game, and it is gory. The game is set in a 2.5D environment, in a sort of high security prison. The graphics are the game are bloody, dark, and did I mention bloody? My favorite part of the game are the detailed cut scenes, don’t believe me? This is a gory part from a cut scene, click at your own will.

The other neat thing I noticed is that the 3D models are quite detailed, from the player (you) to the other creatures you will battle (like the zombie?) dogs. Between the cut scenes and the gameplay itself, it’s one of the creepiest apps in the AppStore (in a good way).

Controls

You control the movement of the player with a d-pad on the left. When there’s an enemy (like the dogs) in front of you a button on the right will appear. You can tap this to attack the enemy. Walking up to things will also display a button on the right you tap. Theres also a few times things get more unique, like breaking glass with a fire extinguisher involves tilting iPhone up and down quickly.

Gameplay

The game starts off with a cut scene of a squad of officers (SWAT?) going into the prison, which are all brutally murdered by a mysterious creepy creature. You play as Roman Mendez, who is in one of the prison’s isolation cells. He hears strange noises, and then his cell mysteriously unlocks. He realizes his jailbreak is going to be much harder than expected.

The fighting system is a bit simplistic, you tap the button constantly to attack. The dogs in specific are a bit easy, they tend to go away after hitting them once or twice. But overall, the story of Fallen is pretty good, and seems will be told trough-out various episodes. But the cut scenes are probably the best I’ve seen (after Hysteria Project) on the iPhone, it brings you into the game world. My one complain would be the sudden camera angle changes, which can become a bit annoying.

Suggestions

For the love of all that’s good in this world, ADD AUTO-SAVE PLEASE!! It’s the thing that turns me off the most about this game. I constantly get a push notification, or forget it does not save and quit. I never remember i have to manually save. The game is good, PLEASE add auto-save.

Conclusion

I like the game, especially the impressive visuals, and the way the story is heading, the following episodes should be fun. The Fallen franchise has potential, I just hope the devs do as goood as they did with this episode.
