Minigore HD Review: THEY WON’T STOP COMING!

If you don’t know the words “They Won’t Stop Coming”, do NOT consider yourself an avid Minigore fan. In HD, it’s definitely fitting to put our review title in caps ;)

Minigore HD ($4.99)

iDracula was the first to employ dual stick controls but Minigore was the first to really find a cult following to this day is still going strong. In higher definition and a whole new map, I really can’t stop playing this anymore!

Recap

The key thing I notice every time I launch Minigore HD are the graphics. The new HD graphics, on the huge 9 inch LED display really stand out and grab your attention, and you can see many more details than on the iPhone’s small screen (like the bullet casings on the floor).

However, as I pointed this out before, Minigore is a dual stick shooter, and on iPad, those don’t work too well. I will admit, after spending a lot of time playing with them, and if you find a comfortable position, you CAN play them, it’s not impossible. But it just feels awkward, and often your thumbs slip causing the character to just stop there, and often die (good thing you have more than one life now).

An advantage the HD version has is that it already comes with the DLC from the iPhone version, for free. This gives you additional characters. Also in the HD version is the new map, (which was for those with the iPhone DLC only) “Snow Forest”, with awesome weather effects (falling snow). In general, MiniGore HD is visually stunning, and I’d definitely get it. But be warned, it’ll take a while to overcome the control issues.

What’s New?

The HD graphics. It REALLY stands out here, when you’re holding the iPad straight into your face, unlike the small iPhone which you held at a distance and didn’t pay attention to every detail. Included in the HD version is the DLC for the iPhone version, for free. Also is a additional map, “Snow Forest”. You guessed it, it takes place in a different forest with falling snow!

Suggestions

Where. is. multiplayer. mode. I hope the anniversary doesn’t come BEFORE the multiplayer because that’d be upsetting.

Conclusion

I really enjoyed MiniGore HD, just because of the visuals. That being said, I’d keep in mind the control issues with the two stick shooters, before taking the plunge. It’s worth the price, and it’s not un-playable, but it can certainly be frustrating in the beginning. I know, it’s hard to resist, if you’re going to get it, at least take advantage of the grand opening sale going on, 30% off.
