To everybody’s surprise, right after releasing the iPad on the 3rd, Apple has already scheduled a preview of iPhone OS 4.0 for tomorrow. Here’s a round-up of what to expect.

Multitasking

It’s the one thing I hear everybody complain about, both from the iPhone and the iPad. It was rumored that Apple was adding multitasking in 4.0 as an Expose like feature:

The process like double-tapping the home button would bring up the squares and let you choose. Whether  or not that’s how Apple is going to implement multitasking to the iPhone, it’s likely we’ll see multitasking no matter how in 4.0.

iAds

Apple acquired Quattro Wireless, and since then it’s been rumored that they have been working on their own ad network. This would be pretty cool, for users because it would (hopefully) bring neater ads instead of the current horrible ones, and good for the developers as well because it would likely be added as part of the iPhone SDK.

Some iPad Features

We might see some iPad features come into play. Maybe allowing it to connect to a Bluetooth keyboard as well, letting the user set his or her own wallpaper for the home-screen, spell check, etc. The really good stuff will stay iPad only, but hopefully some iPad things make it over to the iPhone.

Lockscreen Magic?

We know Apple has patented some stuff for the lockscreen (like SmartScreen for those in the jailbreak world) so hopefully we see that, or at least better push notification management.

And if you really wanna push the “I believe in miracles” envelope, maybe we’ll see the iPad get the “missing apps” (Weather, Stocks, etc.) as lockscreen widgets.

Printing

I pray to the Apple gods they allow me to print from my iPad someday (at least from the iWork apps). And as AppleInsider notes, on the support page for the iWork iPad apps, it says ”printing directly from iPad is not currently available,”.

So  now we wait. Tomorrow we see a preview, and if we’re lucky the developer beta for 4.0 is released, and the internet goes wild. We’ll likely have a live chat thing going on, check back tomorrow morning for the post.
