Radio Flare REDUX took the original Radio Flare and made it better, sexier, and overall an amazing improvement. Now, with Radio Flare REDUX HD, you can officially add “more badass” and “bigger” to that mix of awesome. And I’ll tell you exactly why below.

Recap

Radio Flare is a horizontal shoot ‘em up where you fly through and blast musically inclined alien spaceships, to progress through a series of planets. This is a simple, but addictive and distinctly nostalgic game that is hard to put down, with the awesome graphics and smooth controls and gameplay. This is also one of the few shmups that have made the crossover from iPhone to iPad, leading the way for Space Invaders, Galaga, and others.

You control your ship with a logical set of controls that are truly ideal for this game. You play two handed, with your left hand controlling the ship, by sliding up and down on that side of the screen. You use your right hand to aim and fire upon the ships, swiping and tapping the ships to aim and fire, respectively. This is very natural and adds one more advantage to Radio Flare.

The graphics are great. As a devout retro fan, these graphics are exactly what every single shmup should be made of – glowing neon lines and ships, without the gross and distracting fine detail that takes away from playing. By using simple geometric shapes and lines, you give that nostalgia, while providing ample detail and effectiveness. I couldn’t ask for better graphics anywhere.

What’s New

Made for iPad. If you think that’s not enough, just wait til you actually play the game and realize how much the game got better just due to the bigger screen.

Suggestions

• More worlds / levels.
• More songs.
• More instruction and guidance at first.
• Maybe a ultra-retro mode? ;D That would be awesome to go back to true pixel graphics.

How good do you want it? Well, if you want it GREAT, you got it. This game is simply amazing, and really one-ups the classic titles like Galaga and Space Invaders. If you are a retro shooter fan, look no further, this game is exactly what you’ve always been looking for.
