Pinch Review: Why Don’t You Pinch Me With It!

Pinch is a new casual puzzle game, which is both familiar, but unique in it’s own way. You might like this one because it’s a bit more challenging.

Pinch ($0.99)

You combine colours in a new way, to collect as many orbs as possible, and then reach the finish. It is very fun, and has a unique aspect to it. It is perfect for fans of puzzlers, and great for everyone. Read on.

Presentation

Pinch is a puzzler, through and through. You take orbs in the three primary colours of light (green, cyan, and magenta), and then combine them in numerous ways to form large, differently coloured orbs. This is to go through gates, which are colour specific – a sea green orb is the only orb that can go through a sea green gate. You also need size to cross large gaps, which grow in size to require larger and larger orbs and more creativity.

This requires thought, and could even be extended into an educational experience, should you need to learn the primary colours of light (green, cyan, and magenta) over those of pigment (red, blue, and yellow). This is all a very well made, and simple game, which you will want to keep playing and playing.

Controls

The controls are implied to you directly by the name of the game – pinch. You pinch orbs that are comprised to multiple orbs to split them into smaller orbs. This is very useful, to cross through small gates, or combine with a more apt colour at that moment. You also drag anywhere on the screen to pan about, and drag any of the orbs to move them. This is very natural, and the only real way to conceive of controlling this game. You also drag free orbs onto locked ones to free them. All in all, the controls are made for iPhone.

Gameplay

The gameplay is a puzzler, period. There is no way to describe it, other than a casual puzzler. It requires you to think – but at your own pace. You go and combine orbs to make larger, differently coloured ones, to accommodate the situation you are given. If you have an orange and a blue orb to cross a green gate, just combine them – and out comes white, which can pass through any colour-restrictive gates.

You do this, combining and separating, mixing and matching orbs over and over until you reach the finish, with at least the number of orbs it requests of you. This is all a very fluid method of play, and one that is refreshing. I fell in love with the game, and many of you will too.

Conclusion

Pinch is a unique game, with an amazing premise, which works amazingly well. Mixing colours to solve a puzzle, in a level based, circular way is just great. I couldn’t ask for a better game, all around that does what it aims to do. I highly recommend this game to everyone, because I loved it.
