The never ending saga of the iPhone 4 and the death grip seems, well, never ending. Yesterday, Cult of Mac with several PR companies and they all came into a conclusion: the iPhone 4′s maybe recalled!
Apple will be forced to recall the iPhone 4 following Consumer Reports tests proving the “Death Grip” antenna issue is not software related, but a hardware flaw, PR experts say.
Seeing Apple has remained mum these past days and haven’t released not one single follow up to this death grip issue, I seriously doubt a recall is in the horizon. But hey! I’m not a PR expert so what do I know?
How Can They Fix This Problem
I have four choices for Apple with the fifth being them not doing anything at all, which is very likely as well:
- Recall the iPhone 4
- Offer FREE Bumpers to everyone
- Update OS
- Offer substantial discount for customers who purchase the iPhone 4 for the next gen iPhone
The last option seems more logical for them to do since Apple really can’t recall the iPhone 4s and exactly replace them with what? With a discount for the iPhone 5, customers will still be pissed but at least, they don’t have to lose as much revenue.
What do you think? Why has Apple NOT said anything about this issue at all?!

Consumer Reports has been called out on their tests with claims that the tests they performed left too many variables unaccounted for to be called scientific. I’m not an expert so I’m not siding with either opinion yet. But if Consumer Reports is wrong then Apple’s previous statement that the issue will be fixed with a software update still stands, in which case they don’t really need to repeat themselves; the patch should speak for itself. I’m optimistic, anyway, seeing as how the iPhone 4 is my phone for at least a year, for better or worse.
