The recently released JailbreakMe makes jailbreaking easier by loading the tool right from iPhone Safari. This is also the only iPhone 4 unlock available currently. With that, Macrumors is reporting that this jailbreak exposes an iPhone 4 security issue:
Multiple reports suggest that the jailbreak method attacks a flaw in the iOS PDF viewer in order to gain access to the device, however the principal developer of the project “comex” writes via his Twitter account that he is wondering “how long until someone figures out the actual bug I’m exploiting.”
I’d like to clarify that this isn’t a security issue in a sense that comex is stealing information from you… or at least that we know of.
Apple is also aware of the issue and is looking for a fix immediately. A company spokesperson has this to say:
“We’re investigating,”
We don’t know when the issue will be addressed or whether this can be fixed through either an over the air update or will ship with iOS4.1. Stay tuned for more details. Does this stop you from jailbreaking?
