If you’re like me you love tech demos. We already saw a really quick teaser at Unreal Engine running on a 3GS. But today at QuakeCon, John Carmack decided to take things a bit ahead, using the new iPhone 4.
What did he show? Rage iPhone. In case you haven’t heard of it before, Rage takes place in a post-apocalyptic world, and is a sort of mix between first person shooter and driving. It’s in development for PC and consoles, and Carmack got it running at 60 FPS on an iPhone. See for yourselves in the video above.
Rage for iPhone uses the same id Tech 5 engine that they are using to build the console versions of the game, and needless to say, it’s freaking amazing. Carmack says there will be one Rage title released this year as sort of a “show off” game for what it’s capable off, with a full fledged Rage game to be released next year to coincide with the console release.
We’ll make sure to keep an eye out for this, as it’s the best graphics we’ve seen on the platform. As Carmack said, this kills anything on an XBOX or PS2, and comes pretty close to current console games.
