The original bridge building game arrives to take the App Store by storm. The question is, does it really? Why yes!
There’s not much to say here. World of Goo is a computer / Wii game, so presentation wise, it’s solid. But wait, as with most ports that come to the iOS, this game feels so much better with touch controls. FEEL the difference, ha!
Presentation
The graphics fill up the iPad screen beautifully with it’s unique and creative art style, as well as coming along with the game’s full soundtrack. As for level design, all the levels are the same one as the computer one, and they’re all brilliant and great quality.
Controls
If there’s one game out there that’s been begging to be played on a touch screen, it’s World of Goo. The game translate naturally to the iPad. There’s no need for a tutorial or explanation, just from launching the game, the controls feel natural and fluid.
I dare say it ends up translating as well as, if not better than, with a mouse on a computer. Why? It just feels right, not to mention just seeing something is wrong, and dragging it where you want it, is so much quicker than doing it with a Wiimote or mouse.
Gameplay
The idea behind World of Goo is probably something you’ve played before. Think of it like a bridge building game, like Tiki Towers, but with a twist. Each level is filled with balls of goo, which can bond together to form a bridge, or tower, or pretty much whatever you want. The catch is you have to use as little as possible, building up to or towards the pipe that will suck up the remaining goo balls. The more balls remaining, the higher the score.
This becomes a bigger challenge as moving levels, different goo balls, and other challenges and obstacles are introduced along the way in the games 48 levels. All the frustration, creativity, painter’s signs (come on, who doesn’t love those?) and everything are packed onto the iPad version. All together, World of Goo is just a perfect game for the iPad, and with great quality, and Game Center, it’s an awesome game.
Suggestions
None!
Conclusion
World of Goo is a full quality game that’s been beautifully ported to the iPad. It’s just one of those things that are meant to be. World of Goo is a MUST OWN for all iPad owners. If you don’t already own it, it’s a shame. Go pick it up right now. May the goo be with you.
