iPad 3 Will Get Retina Display 2048×1536, NOT iPad 2 On Release?

The iPad 2 hasn’t even launched, and with The Wall Street Journal reporting it will not be getting a  retina display; Could it be that the iPad 3 will get the Retina Display instead? One analyst thinks so.

Kuo now claims that iPad 3 will deliver a Retina Display-like quality and resolution doubling to 2048×1536, an enhancement originally thought to make it into the more immediate release of iPad 2.

It is believed the iPad 2 will offer a thinner and anti-reflective screen for better viewing in the sunlight, instead of a retina display.

The iPad 3 may arrive as early and this September; but that would be drastically accelerating their usual release time frame. Another analyst has also predicted a true Retina Display for the iPad 3, but he predicts its release in 2012.

A True Retina Display 2048 x 1536 would be twice as many pixels as the current and iPad 2, which use a 1024 x 768 display. Screw iPad 2 I want iPad 3 already!!!

    @Josh: do YOUR math. retina IS 4x as many.

    Retina = 3145728 pixels while the current resolution has 786432 pixels. Divide them and you get 4. Simple math.

    Well since it has 4 times more pixels, it will need some powerful GPU to push them out. Based on this alone the resolution is not likely to appear in ipad2, which i believe will just be the ipad 1 done right. Meaning 1 or 2 cameras, maybe a small upgrade for the CPU and GPU, probably bump up to 512MB of RAM(more is highly unlikely given apple upgrade history, but 768 MB or even 1GB would be nice) to bring it up to par with the iphone 4. So it will be an evolution rather than a revolution.

    Supposedly ‘”Retina” iPad: 263.92 DPI

    Steve Jobs said the magic number was around 300 for Retina.

    It’s a good up from the old screen, but I don’t think it’s quite “Retina,” because the Retina display was named that because the DPI is so dense, the human eye (retina), can not tell/see the individual pixels.

      Yes, but since you’d hold the iPad further away from you than the iPhone 4 (approximately 24″), 263PPI could qualify as a Retina Display. Remember, Steve said at about 12″ distance, individual pixels on a 300PPI + display are not discernible. Anyway, Retina Display is only a marketing term, and the human eye can probably discern more than 300PPI at 12″

    due to the rumours that has been spreading like wildfire on the internet about the ipad 2 since the release of the current ipad actually stops me from purchasing the 1st gen of ipad but after reading several artical ,the fact that ipad 2 will have the same screen resolution as the current ipad really annoys me making me think twice of purchasing the second generation of ipad too when it is release.too high expectation i guess maybe i should get something else like the motorola zoom seems like a really cool tablet…………….nah i guess i shall wait for the ipad 3 instead,DAMN apple is really driving me nuts XD lol.please do a better job, on the 3rd gen mr.jobs.
