We still don’t know what Apple will call its next generation iPhone, so I figured I’ll still try and refer to them as both iPhone 5 and iPhone 4S. It’s rumored that it will release this Fall, but since OmniVision Technologies just announced a thinner camera, will it be supported?

“OmniVision Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: OVTI), a leading developer of advanced digital imaging solutions, today introduced the OV5690, the first 5-megapixel image sensor to use OmniVision’s proprietary OmniBSI-2 pixel architecture”

“The new 1.4-micron backside illumination pixel allows for a full five megapixels in a 1/4-inch optical format, and combines best-in-class image quality with a 20 percent reduction in camera module height, making it an effective solution for slimmer mobile handsets, smart phones and tablet computers.”

Now Apple might be reserving this camera for iPad 3 or maybe even iPhone 6 since its rumored the next iPhone will maintain the iPhone 4′s form factor. But really, who wouldn’t mind an even thinner iPhone?
