Smash Cops is the latest iOS title from Hutch, which is all about pursuing felons in your cop car and smashing into them until they roll over or even better, catch on fire!

Presentation

The graphics on these new iOS games keep getting better and better, Smash Cops continues this pattern with some really sweet visuals. The game is actually presented as if you’re watching a high speed pursuit on TV. In addition, the destructive smashing effects are awesome and really add flavor to the game.

Smash Cops is a fitting title for this racer, as you will be taking your cop car and ‘smashing’ into other vehicles creating chaos and mayhem throughout the city. The in game sounds are great, and the soundtrack delivers as well.

Controls

The games default controls are quite different from some of the other 3rd person racers on iOS. But that’s not a bad thing. Your car accelerates automatically while you place one finger behind your car and push it similar to how you would steer a toy car.

It does take some getting used to but it’s best to just stick with the default controls, as the alternative virtual joystick option made it more difficult to steer. Pressing anywhere on the screen when your ram boost is full will cause a huge burst that is ideal for taking out these runners.

Gameplay

The game features 22 missions which include pursuits, emergency response calls, and driving challenges. Pursuits are the most fun, requiring you to take down the criminal vehicles by smashing and ‘RAM’ing them.

Answering Emergency Response calls involves following a path of markers a crime-scene under a certain time limit, avoiding obstacles along the way. Lastly, the driving challenges proved to be the most difficult, requiring you to stay between traffic cones. (This can be tricky until you get the controls down)

Suggestions

The game is a little on the short side; Hopefully there will be updates that add new missions in the future.

Smash Cops is a stunning looking game that features unique controls and some seriously fun gameplay. The game is also universal, so it’s ready to play on all your iOS devices for only $2.99.
