I still think The Hunger Games hands down is a much better and deeper story than Twilight, but as it stands, the buzz surrounding this movie has turned it to just what I feared. Regardless, it looks like Canabalt creator is making the official iOS game for the movie!
” I am happy to announce that I am collaborating with Lionsgate and a kind of indie dream-team to make The Hunger Games: Girl on Fire for iOS. Mark Johns (Tap Tap Dance) and Kevin Coulton, the minds behind Doomlaser (Hot Throttle, Space Barnacle), are fleshing out the design while they program the game from scratch.”
Adam Atomic understands how unnecessary rethemed games are that pass for movie tie ins. He says a Canabalt like running game in Panem world is completely out of the question. It sounds like Lionsgate has given Adam and his team the freedom to create a game that’s original and will resonate to the fans of the book and eventually the movie.
The game is coming soon and I sincerely believe it’ll be available for free. I’ll leave you with a gameplay tease:
I pitched them on an original touch-based action game instead. It does feature a running character, but the focus of the game is more on marksmanship and strategy… but we’ll have more to say and show about that later!
The Hunger Games game’s Facebook page reveals a few more info. It looks like the gameplay will focus on the SPOILER ALERT tracker jacker scene. Katniss will try to flee them with her handy bow and arrow. I’m sure it’s a lot more complex than that so I’ll reserve judgment until it’s out.
