Visually the game is enough to catch your eye, but not too much as to distract you. The hand-drawn animations feel well made and polished, even if a bit repetitive at times…
Knights of the Round Cable (Universal: $0.99) ![]()
“Addictive, colorful, and downright fun, Knights of the Round Cable is the perfect slice of gaming. Universally accessible, uniquely entertaining, simple in premise and yet with deep rewarding gameplay, it’s a real gem.”
Presentation
Smooth, simple, and colorful. It alls comes together nicely. Not on part with the visuals though is the audio side of the game. After playing it for a while, I ended up just playing the rest of the game in silent. Both the music, and the sound effects, although good in the beginning, quickly became annoying.
Controls
There are only 2 buttons, which makes for more of the game than on-screen buttons, and the controls work pretty well. One button makes your knight hook onto the nearest peg, and the other changes his direction of rotation. Changing directions is not only important to build up speed, but to avoid gems and hazards easily. The indicator points out which peg your knight will grapple to also helps out.
Gameplay
Knights of the Round is a perfect example of an endless arcade-style game, that although isn’t exactly new can still be a lot of fun. Your knight reacts like if he were made out of rubber: bouncing off surfaces. Scattered through the levels are pegs, which you can grapple onto and spin around them to gather gems.
Sound easy? It’s because it is, or so it starts off. The further you get the more obstacles and enemies are introduced, which will make you pay more attention to the game, rather than randomly grappling whatever peg is closest to you; the difficulty curve is just right.
So what do you do when you get to those harder levels? You can buy tons of items using in-game money to help you out. This includes extra hearts, skills, gem magnets, and much more. They may not sound like a big deal, but you’re going to need them for some of the later levels.
Conclusion
Knights of the Round Cable is a perfect example of a fun, pick up and play game you can play for just five minutes, or you can actually sit down all night and play it. Visually the game is attractive, the controls work great on the touchscreen devices, and the gameplay is, to put it simply, addicting. I’d highly recommend you pick up Knights of the Round Cable. 8/10
