With the fourth beta of iOS 6 released to developers, there’s one thing that everyone seems to have noticed: the native YouTube app is gone. Fear not, YouTube videos are still viewable through Safari.
Apple and Google have released statements about this, and Google is already working on an app to submit to the AppStore.
The Verge is reporting a statement from Apple acknowledging the removal of the app in the latest beta:
Our license to include the YouTube app in iOS has ended, customers can use YouTube in the Safari browser and Google is working on a new YouTube app to be on the App Store.
We are working with Apple to make sure we have the best possible YouTube experience for iOS users.
It will be interesting to see what comes next, with the iPhone and iPad being a huge platform for YouTube to monetize on. For the time being, if you’re on the latest beta, you can add the web app to your home screen and use that until the official app is released.
