Super Mole Escape Review: Adult Swim Releases Another Great Game For Dirt Cheap!

[adult swim] has found its niche in the iOS store with its casual gaming offerings. Most (if not all of them) are fantastic, this new one included!

Super Mole Escape (Universal: $0.99)

“Burrow out of the Big House with power-ups like hammers and rockets, stockpile gems to upgrade abilities (or bribe the judge), and do whatever it takes to stay ahead of the Warden’s impressive mustache!”

Presentation

As we say with every Adult Swim game at this point: presentation is top notch. It’s not that the game is graphically stunning, it’s just that it’s well polished. As you play, you’ll have a clear eye on the “road” that you’re supposed to be following, as you guide the mole to his sweet escape.

Controls

Super Mole Escape uses tilt controls, and fortunately for the game, they work out well. As is pretty much the standard on the AppStore though, if your game uses tilt controls, there’s always an option to use touch controls instead.

In my experience though, I preferred the tilt controls to the touch, they just felt easier to use. That may come as a shocker to some of you, but just give it a shot will you? All you have to do is tilt to control the mole. How much easier can it get?

Gameplay

The goal of the game is to keep going down and not let the warden catch up with you. Once you start going down, there’s no slowing down. The only thing you can do is speed up, which you do by catching the gems that are lined up along the way. Most of the game takes place on dirt, but along the way you’ll bump into layers of ice, lava, and more.

You’ll also have obstacles in your way. You don’t want to slow down, so the best thing to do is to stick to the lightly colored dirt (which is your “track”) and avoid the rocks on the way. Once you’re done, the gems collected can be used to buy all sorts of things, such as character upgrades (speed, acceleration), power-ups, or more characters.

You guessed it, you can buy in game currency with real life money via IAP. Oh, and my favorite part: multiplayer. Thanks to Game Center, you can have two moles on screen at once and race each other. It’s just more fun to play with a friend than yourself, but playing it yourself is pretty fun too.

Conclusion

Adult Swim games should just have a “buy it now” sticker at this point. Super Mole Escape keeps with the rest of the lineup by bringing us an addictively fun, polished game to play. Oh and it’s dirt (no pun intended) cheap too. I’d recommend you pick it up for a quick fix wherever you might be. 8/10.
