When iPhone 5 pre-orders went up, the Apple online store in some countries appeared to be saying it would include a Lighting to 30-pin adapter to customers for free with the purchase of an iPhone 5. iPhoneinCanada.ca was the first to report this.
Shortly after though, Apple released a statement to The Loop confirming that the adapter is not included with the iPhone 5.
The confusion began with the disclosure in the form of an option to add an additional adapter to the order:
Your iPhone includes a Lightning to 30-pin Adapter for connecting 30-pin accessories to devices featuring the Lightning connector. Purchase this additional adapter to have a second adapter for your home or office.
Which led people to speculate that they would be receiving a free adapter with their iPhone 5 pre-order. Despite that, the adapter was not included in Apple’s “What’s in the box” page, which led to some confusion among customers. Luckily Apple released a statement to The Loop clearing up any confusion:
“The Lightning to 30-pin adapter does not come in the box with iPhone 5. It is sold separately,” Apple spokesperson, Natalie Harrison, told The Loop. “However, the Lightning to USB cable does come with iPhone 5 for connection to AC chargers and other devices.”
So there you have it folks, if you want an adapter, you’ll have to buy it separately. But really, does that surprise anyone?
