While we wait for the iPhone 5, how about some more benchmarks? AnandTech has published the first SunSpider Javascript benchmark test for the iPhone, and not surprisingly, it blows away the competition. Keep in mind the smaller the number the better.
For comparison, the iPhone 4S got a score of 2250ms, compared to the Samsung Galaxy S III (at 1442.9-1824ms). The iPhone 5? 914.7ms.
Javascript is used to measure the performance of a web, with the final score depending on the processor of the phone as well as the Java implementation on the device. Javascript is a common area of optimization for web browsers, and it may have been optimized for iOS 6. In this case, as AnandTech notes, the superior perform reflects the improved memory subsystem in Apple’s A6.
