Graphically, the game is gorgeous. And I really do mean gorgeous, you can tell Firemonkeys had their hands all over it.
Need for Speed Most Wanted (Universal: $6.99) ![]()
“Buckle up, hit the gas and hold on tight; you’re in for the ride of your life. Outrun cops, outsmart rivals – and outdrive your friends – in the most dangerous Need for Speed yet. Do you dare to be the Most Wanted?”
Presentation
You can just look at a screenshot of the game in action and already tell, it’s a good one. I for one, played the game on a shiny (the thing is made of unicorn tears) iPhone 5, and it is bliss. As you’re racing down the streets, you’ll notice just how detailed and beautiful the backgrounds are.
When it comes to the car models, NFS Most Wanted continues to use licensed cars. And just with the environment, the cars are beautifully rendered. T0 accompany the graphics, the game has the usual techno and rock soundtrack that we’ve gotten used to from Need for Speed games.
Control
The game has the typical controls you’ve grown accustomed to on iOS games. Tilt controls for the car, with optional touch controls. You tap to brake, and swipe up for the nitrous to kick in. Here’s the cool part. As usual, Need for Speed nails the sense of speed. This, combined with the fact that the cars feel solid. As you’re playing, you’ll notice they each handle differently, as you would expect it to.
Gameplay
Let me tell you right now, this is not a racing game like Real Racing. This is straight up a classic arcade racer, and it excels at that. Although there are many types of races, the most common one is a street race. Other than that, there are also timed races, “hot ride” races, and so on.
One of my favorite things in NFS:MW, is the carnage. As cops pursue you, you can simply smash into your enemies. You also get to jump through billboards and smash though them, although don’t expect the crazy heights you see in games like Asphalt. As usual with NFS games, you can mod you car for more performance.
Conclusion
Need for Speed: Most Wanted is definitely the best NFS that EA has put out there for iOS. We always enjoyed the racers to come out of Firemonkey, and although they only helped in this one, their mark is clear on this game. You don’t want to miss out on this game, I recommend you grab it right now. 9/10
