Zentomino is another puzzler in the veins of Craig’s other hit: TanZen. The object of the game is to jumble 12 puzzle pieces to match a puzzle pattern. If that’s not enough, you can try Zentomino Lite as well!

Dave, Allan and Pocket God: Where To?

**II || Part Two**

Dave and Allan knew exactly what what they want to do. But how exactly was it humanly possible to dish out updates week per week. On top of that, how much was the overall cost of the initial Pocket God release?

Being a two-man only project, Dave and Allan started putting in 40 hours each. They work on updates for 2 full days “until 2 in the morning”. The sound was one of the things they had to pay for. The engine was paid for by  Dave’s other app (Fwarp). Overall, it cost these guys $1000 initial costs.

The first release submission took about a week and a half according to Dave. He says as far as updates are concerned… it takes them roughly 4 days of approval time.

Now Pocket God was ready for release, how did the public see it? How did they rise to the top? What was the overall perception? How the hell can they still update the app every week?

If you want to play god, buy the app and start messing with the islanders. You can throw them to the volcano, drop coconuts in their head, feed them to the shark, change to night and day, electrocute the pygmies by lightning and much much more!

Bolt Creative (Allan Dye and Dave Castelnuovo) had shown tremendous hardword to their app updating it EVERY week with new features without EVER charging for the update neither increasing the price.

KUDOS to both of you. (HINT: More Pocket God + Bolt Creative goodness for March, wonder why?…)

February Dev of the Month: ETHAN NICHOLAS (Part 2)

**Win A Copy of iShoot For Yourself. Find Out after the Jump. Duplicate Entries Per Article Allowed!**

In the first part of our Developer of the Month feature, we get to know a little bit more about Ethan. In this conclusion of the feature, we’ll find out how iShoot came to be and where Ethan sees to be taking the game.

Overcoming Hardships, Pursuing A Goal, and The Birth of a Masterpiece

Ethan has always loved “artillery games, such as the classic Scorched Earth”. He saw and downloaded a game with a similar sounding theme only to be disappointed later. The game was not iScorched Earth, so he then decided to learn Objective C (iPhone’s programming language) and create one himself. It wasn’t through some magic wand that the game came to existence.

It had been a very rough couple of years for my family medically… so money was very tight for us at the time. I pitched iShoot to my wife as a way for me to make a few thousand bucks on the side, but the truth is that I wrote iShoot more because I wanted to play it than because I wanted to sell it.

February Dev of the Month: ETHAN NICHOLAS (Part 1)

**Win A Copy of iShoot For Yourself. Find Out after the Jump**

Erratum: Ethan has been programming since 8 years old. He started professionally at the age of 16. We apologize to Ethan for this getting overlooked.

The amazing response we’ve received from both our inaugural January Developers of the Month (Ian Marsh and Craig Kemper), and the iPhone gaming community has been a tremendous success. We’re officially continuing this tradition here at The APPera!

Picking the “February Developer of the Month” was one of the easiest decisions we’ve ever had to make. His tremendous success trounced the fart app laden AppStore and made history by  becoming the first developer to shoot to the top of BOTH the AppStore’s Paid and Free Charts at the same time. He’s had (and still enjoying!) one (if not the best) of the greatest AppStore success stories so far, both developers and gamers alike consider him as a legend.

feb_devmonth

Ethan Nicholas, iShoot ($2.99; Free)

There was a time all hope was lost due to the fact that a certain fart app was immovable at the top of the AppStore paid charts. Far superior quality games were getting overlooked one after the other all for some fart app fiasco. Day after day, the AppStore spawned new variants of fart apps… then comes January 3. It was the day the lite version of an action packed, artillery game one can call ”Tank Battle Royale” hit the AppStore.
