**UPDATED: Looks like an official Activision port! See after the jump!**
While GDCfestivities are almost about to die down, Tony Hawk and what he calls “going rogue” PR just hit us with the BIGGEST news so far. Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 iPhone is finally official… considering Tony Hawk tweeted about it HIMSELF:
If you may remember, an unofficial build of the game circled on the interwebs and last year’s GDC and E3 as well. The company who ported the game said they hope to make it official and today, it looks like it finally is.
So it turns out the iPad Delay is somewhat true after all. Previously announced last January as a “late March” arrival, the iPad WiFi only versions will now arrive April 3 with preorders taken as early as March 12!
For starters, pre-orders will open March 12. You can pre-order online like all the cool kids are doing, or if you want it the old fashion way, you can go to your local Apple store and reserve for pickup.
This also includes pre-ordering the 3G model. You can head over here to check out everything regarding preorders and information about the device itself.
We already know Gameloftis a master when it comes to not-so-very revealing teasers (not really). Just today, they’ve posted a new teaser site SamsNewMission.com which possibly means Splinter Cell iPhone:
How so? If you look at the picture above, there are coordinates and when typed on Google Maps, it results to: 1 Infinite Loop, Apple’s Cupertino facilities. WIN:
It took Apple some years to finally grow a pair master a tablet and show off the iPadlast March, but what’s this we’re hearing the launch of the WiFi only iPads may be delayed!?
What iPad?
If you ask AllThingsD, they’re hearing news that the manufacturer of the “god machine” are having some “unspecified problems” that MAY limit distribution of the devices from 1000K estimate to just 300K!
“An unspecified production problem at the iPad’s manufacturer, Hon Hai Precision,” the analyst explains, “will likely limit the launch region to the US and the number of units available to roughly 300K in the month of March, far lower than the company’s initial estimate of 1,000K units.”
The initial production problems may in fact ALSO affect April’s predicted 800K unit launch. All together, these delays may push the release by up to a month.
Well how about that? Just last night, we told you Gameloft’s bringing us a Rayman game but we don’t know which one. Yesterday, Gameloft revealed the mystery game is Rayman 2: The Great Escape and that it’ll launch March 1 along with this video:
Rayman, the world-famous video game icon, is back and ready for action! Relive all the enjoyment of Rayman 2: The Great Escape, the game that brought the armless hero into 3D environments for the first time!
Suprise surprise SURPRISE! Today, ngmoco announced the acquisition of Freeverse. Just when you thought ngmoco is remaining pretty quiet for the first half of 2010… BOOM! This news is on top of the $25 Million funding ngmoco received today which was used to also buy a game we loved…Charadium.
Lotsa $$$
Freemium Freeverse On The Way?
ngmoco is behind popular games such as Rolando, Eliminate, Topple, and has shifted to the ‘freemium‘ payment model which seems to be going well for them. Freeverse on the other hand has a bunch of popular games, most of which were on the top 25 for a long time or currently still are.
With ngmoco taking over, it seems they’ll be shifting to the ‘freemium’ method too, though apparently not like Eliminate (where you have to pay more than once for powercells). We suspect they’ll offer more of a “trial” system where DLC is one time pay instead of constant payment aka powercells.
Look, yes I know the three words I used are overkill but I’m just pouring my disappointment on the title. ngmoco confirmed to IGNthat Rolando 3, the next sequel to the uber fun tilt platformer Rolando, is officially dead… for now.
Who’s the culprit you ask? >> Freemium gaming. It should’ve really been obvious that ngmoco is gearing for a completely “free to play” system with Touch Pets Dogsand Eliminate Pro, and today, it is all but cleared.
Tired of not being able to downloads apps just over 10MB using 3G/EDGE? Applefelt your pain and has now bumped the download limit from 10MB to 20MB. This is especially good news for those times when you’re itching to download an app but can’t find a WiFi signal.
Victory!
I’m not too sure as to how happy AT&T subscribers should be since a 20MB download over their 3G network should take you about an hour on a good day. For everyone else, I hope your network is better than mine to fully utilize this Apple enhancement.
What This Means For iPhone Devs?
Look at the Tap Tap Revengeapps and tell me if there’s ONE SINGLE app that’s over 10MB? I thought so!
Why do you think most FREE tracks should be downloaded separately?I now expect Tap Tap Revenge 4 to have more tracks pre-downloaded.
Time waster tip: go on YouTube and search for <insert big name title> + “iPhone” and you’ll most likely get a hoax video (i.e. Uncharted iPhone). This game has several video hoaxes but this piece of news is definitely real. IGNconfirms Street Fighter 4 iPhone is coming soon:
The Street Fighter franchise is one of the oldest and most commonly known (and highly awarded) fighting games. EVERYONE has either heard or played it, to be able to be graced by an official version on our platform is definitely a HUGE deal.
Remember the quote “Friends Don’t Let Friends Play Wow.” Well it looks like that’s going to be a lot harder to achieve now that Blizzard has FINALLY confirmed that WoW Auction House iPhone is definitely TRUE and coming soon.
This piece of news isn’t really something that came off the left field seeing the success of the WoW Armory for the iPhone. WoW Armory for those not familiar with the game is like eBay restricted to WoW items and cash. Blizzard is also careful to note that the full functionality of this app will be somehow PAID on top of your current WoW monthly subs.
