Netflix iPhone, iPad: Maybe Just Maybe, Fingers Crossed!

Wired is reporting through multiple sources that the movie rental/online streaming company Netflix is pondering on delivering its services through the iPhones and the iPads. If such thing develops, it’s the death of television and movies, YAY!

netflix-iphone

“The selection availability to instantly watch [sic] includes some new releases, lots of classics and TV episodes. There are no advertisements or trailers, and movies start in as little as 30 seconds. You can fast-forward, rewind, and pause or watch again… for no additional fee.”

Don’t get your hopes way up just yet as Wii Netflix is just arriving this Spring after the company surveyed its subscribers regarding that service. Still, the prospect of being able to view movies and TV shows instantly on the john sounds very very exciting.

Plants Vs Zombies iPhone Makes $1M In 9 Days, Bejeweled First to $3M

Someone is bathing on some cold hard cash this past week alright… If you thought us calling Plants Vs Zombies iPhoneDangerously Addicting” makes us insane, why don’t you ask the game’s record breaking $1 Million AppStore sales in its first NINE days just announced:

plants-vs-zombies-1

Plants vs. Zombies™ sold more than 300,000 units in its first nine days of availability, setting a new record for App Store launches. Plants vs. Zombies shot to number one in the units sold and “top grossing” App Store charts within 24 hours of its launch and remained there until yesterday. At a retail price point of US$2.99, Plants vs. Zombies for iPhone/touch has already grossed more than US$1 million.

As if that’s enough to make those PopCap guys jump up and down in joy, they’ve also revealed that Bejeweled 2 iPhone has raked in over $3 Million in sales. They also claim this is the FIRST iPhone game to do that, and we believe them.

Apple Sex Issue Reversals: Daisy Mae Returns In Her Sexy Glory

Apple’s removal of some “sexually suggestive” apps the other day caused an uproar from blogs like us. This morning, as loud as it went out, Daisy Mae’s Alien Buffet is now back in the store WITHOUT any changes from IUGO.

BANNED!

BANNED!

This follows Phil Schiller’s (Apple Head of Product Marketing) statement to the NY Times this morning regarding the actual removal of said apps:

It came to the point where we were getting customer complaints from women who found the content getting too degrading and objectionable,    as well as parents who were upset with what their kids were able to see

However as KRAPPS initially pointed out, WHY are Maxim, Sports Illustrated and Playboy, all of which contain sexually titillating images    and content are STILL on the store.

Mr Schiller’s answer is obvious and shocking at the same time…

ngmoco Gets $25 Million, Buys Freeverse, Charadium, Will Open Plus+

Co-Written By: Dan Morgan

Suprise surprise SURPRISE! Today, ngmoco announced the acquisition of Freeverse. Just when you thought ngmoco is remaining pretty quiet for the first half of 2010… BOOM! This news is on top of the $25 Million funding ngmoco received today which was used to also buy a game we loved… Charadium.

Lotsa $$$

Lotsa $$$

Freemium Freeverse On The Way?

ngmoco is behind popular games such as Rolando, Eliminate, Topple, and has shifted to the ‘freemium‘ payment model which seems to be going well for them. Freeverse on the other hand has a bunch of popular games, most of which were on the top 25 for a long time or currently still are.

With ngmoco taking over, it seems they’ll be shifting to the ‘freemium’ method too, though apparently not like Eliminate (where you have to pay more than once for powercells). We suspect they’ll offer more of a “trial” system where DLC is one time pay instead of constant payment aka powercells.

Stair Dismount Wins IGF Mobile 2010 Award, FREE Version Released

One of the games from our very own Top 50 iPhone Games of 2009 has gone to win themselves a shiny IGF Mobile 2010 Award, and yes we feel vindicated. For your other Stair Dismount news, the FREE version has been released.

This dev team’s first foray in Zen Bound was both a critical and iPhone community success and thankfully, Stair Dismount doesn’t let us down. The first version of the game was already stellar but the updates (which we’ll discuss after the jump) it got after put it at the same pedestal Zen Bound is!

Apple Removes Sexually Suggestive Apps, Daisy Mae Included, Boo!

KRAPPS initially reported that Apple has began removing sexually suggestive apps including but not limited to: sex position apps, anything with boob and apparently thong wearing heroes which includes IUGO’s Daisy Mae’s Alien Buffet:

daisy-maes-alien-buffet-pr-2

We have decided to remove any overtly sexual content from the App Store, which includes your application.

Above is an excerpt from an email Apple sent to developers with apps in question. As KRAPPS noted, how come Playboy, Sports Illustrated apps and numerous other “big name” apps remain for sale? Where is equality here Apple and why do you continue to screw yourselves?

Pocket God Comics: Pygmies Continue Their World Domination

While my first choice would have been the iPad or some other mobile/multitouch device, the Pocket God pygmies’ next trip ain’t too shabby either. Guess what? Through a Kotaku and their official blog announcement, Pocket God Comics is coming to your favorite comics shop this 2010!

pocket-god-comics

OMG YAY!

Even more good news? The comics will be released digitally first THEN through print editions. Bolt Creative sat down with Comic Book Resources (CBR) to the pygmies’ new medium. Here are some highlights:

  • When asked regarding how the comics will help enrich the game’s history, Dave said “The comic is a perfect way to flesh out the mythology of the island and give them the deeper meaning behind things that make an appearance in the game.”
  • CBR: Will we also learn more about the mysterious god that wreaks havoc on the lives of the Pygmies? Dave Castelnuovo (DC): This is actually the perfect place for a teaser. We would like to keep the nature of the mysterious god a mystery.

Gameloft’s 2009 iPhone/Touch AppStore Revenue: $25 Million!

If you ever wondered just how much money Gameloft made last year from the thousands of iPhone games they released, TechCrunch has the answer for you: $25 Million! Holy moly, that’s a lot of moolah!

gameloft

Cha ching!

The video game publisher achieved consolidated sales of €122.0 million – roughly $170 million – for 2009, up 11% compared to 2008.

The company also specified ‘iPhone revenue’, which presumably means its income from distribution of its games on both the iPhone and iPod Touch: in 2009, that number jumped 231% YOY to reach €17.6 million (approximately $25 million).

TechCrunch goes on to say that the company credits the AppStore for the 12% revenue hike compared to a year before. If you’re wondering whether Gameloft will trek on to the iPad next…
