101-in-1 Games Review Quickie: Where One Isn’t Enough (Or Is It?)

We’ve seen that 14 in 1 game but that holds no candle to this game. Why? Because this game has 87 more games than that one (check my math!).

101-in-1 Games ($2.99)

101-in-1-games-1 101-in-1-games-1

Free games and one game with two or more modes isn’t enough for Nordcurrent. They’ve devised a pretty cool plan of combining 101 mini games into one epic game. While not all games are I’d say “very good”, I think it’s safe to say that the game is fun and has lots of playing time!

C64 News: More FREE Games, OpenFeint, WIN Real C64!

Those who are playing the C64 emulator, one of the few approved by Apple are in for a treat.  The developers have been updating the app for quite a while now and it’s time we take a second look!  While I don’t expect the masses to notice, us retro gamers are happy to see the added games and features.  So let’s kick it off with the freebies!

Sexy Eh?

Attack of the Mutant Camels: Side-scroller equivalent to Atari 2600’s Empire Strike’s Back.  Those who know that game will see a close match.  Playing the game, those camels shoot a smart missile that curve towards you until it’s in close range.  On the emulator, it’s a tough challenge to avoid, but it’s fun.

Laser Squad: Strategy-based, it’s obviously not an arcade title.  To me it’s a customizable Stratego-like game, that includes number of men, rank, strength, weapons and the playfield.  This game is built for hot seat action with 1-4 players.  I did try to play it, but my patience was not in check at that moment.  It’s one a true fan will have to show me how to play the darn game.  But it is cool seeing the custom game play.

Compression and Fishtropolis: Little Bear And NimbleBit, A Year After.

**It’s my BIRTHDAY! Win a copy of Compression AND/OR Fishtropolis for FREE!**

It’s been around a year now since we first featured Tanzen from Little White Bear Studios, and  Scoops from NimbleBit (then simply Ian Marsh). Today we’re with the nearing of our site anniversary, we go full circle by featuring their new games coincidentally released close to each other yet again.

Compression ($0.99; FREE) | Little White Bear Studios

This game stays true to the studios’ puzzle gaming roots by providing a cool Dr Mario like atmosphere but with far more pressure. The goal in Compression is to clear hollow centered squares to proceed to the next level. You tap the objects to rotate them, create at least a three square match and clear the blocks.

compression-1 compression-1

If that sounds too easy, wait ’til you see the walls move closer and closer to “compress” your gameplay board. Compression has that survival mode format in which as you long as you stay alive, new levels will be presented one after another. With OpenFeint leaderboards, this one’s loads of fun!

Fishtropolis ($1.99) | NimbleBit

We reviewed Fishtropolis not-so long lost cousin Textropolis and found it to be loads of fun. That game remains to be one of the better themed games and one of the most polished ones at that. Now the team is back with not just a reskinning of this iPhone classic word game, but new features as well.

fishtropolis-1 fishtropolis-1

First new feature: shake to scramble the title of letters, especially great for whenever you get stuck. Now let’s not stop anymore: four stars, progress bar, new hint system and percent completion tags. Oh! Did I forget the cool new fishes that swim around as you play? It’s like the word fish tank!

DaVinci’s Secret Machines Review Quickie: Inventive Puzzler (FREE Til Dec 22)

Leonardo DaVinci is one solid man. When I said solid, I meant this duude has accomplished, theorized and invented some of the greatest pieces of information from science to math and many more.

DaVinci’s Secret Machines by Above Ground Systems makes use of DaVinci’s diagrams and drawings to create a challenging (and historically correct?) puzzle game.

davincis-secret-machines-1

Many of his drawings of machines and contraptions contained missing elements, as if he had not fully developed the drawings and schematics. It is said he purposely left certain items out, or put in parts that would not work, in order to prevent it from being used in harmful ways.

davincis-secret-machines-1

Hmmm… would YOU be able to put the missing pieces in to complete the levels?
