As big big fans of puzzles and platformers, it’s very hard not to pick a handful of them for inclusion on our Top 50 iPhone Games 2009. These games are some of the most fun we’ve had on the platform. They vary from greatly designed game, perfect use of iDevice controls or maybe combination of both!

SPIDER THE SECRET OF BRYCE MANOR, this game gives Rolando 2 some serious competition. From the unseen control methods (draw webs to catch spiders) to the very engaging and mysterious storyline, Spider fast turned into an iPhone gaming favorite.
SWAY, when I said “combination of both” above, this game is the best example for it. The game’s touch controls to sway the characters coupled with the amazing art and game design, Sway remains one of my most playable games to date.

PEGGLE, this PopCap game classic was ported to the iPhone very successfully. It’s every bit as fun as we remembered it when we played the desktop versions.
KINGDOM OF GNESTER, the combination of Bejeweled type gameplay and platformer gameplay styles make it very irresistible to not include it on the list. If you think we’re over-hyping this game, why not play the FREE version and prove us wrong?

HOOK CHAMP, wow, this game is like the Indiana Jones version of Mario in its full 8bit glory. Complete multitude of levels across various worlds using some rope swinging action. With the recent addition of OpenFeint challenges, Hook Champ is one of THE best!
IMPLODE, from the very interesting overall theme to the simplicity of its gameplay, Implode is one of the AppStore’s best puzzler priced possessions.

GEODEFENSE SWARM, outstanding artwork and the most challenging tower defense game to date, geoDefense Swarm somehow managed to be very addicting. This is not your kid’s tower defense game!
SOOSIZ, if Hook Champ was the Indiana Jones of Super Mario, this game is Super Mario crafted for the iPhone. Play through different levels to find your missing kids which gives you new powers. The gameplay elements feel so natural and perfect for the iPhone.

MINISQUADRON, this game is the perfect action-strategy stick shooter out there. The planes look like kids collectibles and the intense action it delivers catapult this to the top. Let’s not forget the close to 100 unlockable planes, the most of any game (?!).
RAGDOLL BLASTER, I would have to say this game gave way to Implode’s success. A constant chart topper where the goal is to shoot out a ragdoll out of canons to hit targets, Ragdoll Blaster remains successful as it should be.
