Upon playing Cocoto Kart Racer, two titles came to mind, Crash Bandicoot Nitro Kart and Mario Kart. The same racing type is there, including the maps, characters, and weapons at your disposal.

Neko Entertainment and Eurocenter have made yet another racing game to choose from.It also has an amazing online multiplayer feature unlike some big company’s broken one (Konami we’re talking to you!).

I don’t normally go for racing games that don’t have at least one of the two following qualities: a futuristic setting or weapons. However, after taking Ridge Racer for a spin through a couple of races, I really want to like it.
RIDGE RACER ACCELERATED ($2.99)

The visuals are some of the best I’ve seen in a racer that doesn’t take place on another planet, and the tracks are laid out nicely. However, the shoddy controls make the game less than fun to play, and the lack of substance you get with the initial purchase make me despise the whole in-app purchase concept even more than I already did.

Need for Speed Undercover is the uncontested arcade racing king while Real Racing holds onto the simulation racing spot. Where does this belong?
Need for Speed Shift ($6.99 - Holiday Price)
Need for Speed Shift was meant to be a simulation racer but instead the iPhone version is dead smack in the middle of the two genres.

The racing style in NFS Shift is designed to be more of a simulation experience, with no incoming cars or being able to make other cars to flying. The racing modes and track designs just give this an arcade feel and the mix of the two makes for a deadly combination.

We’ve seen Real Racing, Asphalt 5 and NFSU, but maybe all we really need is a driving game based on pure adrenaline arcade fun?
Jet Car Stunts ($1.99)

Jet Car Stunts is comparable to saying Backbreaker Football is a “mini” game out of the huge football game (aka Madden or NFL 2010). In this game, you really don’t compete with anybody but your own times driving against pits, shooting trajectories off the skies, drifting both on and off air. It’s that EXTREME!

Join Edgar and Eva Zimmer in this wacky race to the finish line. Tilt your iPhone to steer the wagon in Stunt Wagon. Watch out for the pylons and tires. Tap the screen fly over obstacles.

**Update: Autoacceleration can be disabled on the options screen. Apologies to Gameloft**
Early in the App Store’s career we had one game that was a standout at the time, Asphalt 4: Elite Racing. But with the release of the latest Asphalt game we find that game blown out of the water with a faster, shinier and meaner Asphalt 5.

Asphalt 5 ($6.99)
I absolutely loved Asphalt 4 to bits, thinking it was about as good as iPhone games could go (hell was I wrong). Asphalt 5 is Gameloft’s latest version, a game that has been announced for some time. They have basically stripped Asphalt 4 and improved the game on almost every level possible, putting a racing game out that is finally in the same league at NFS: Undercover and Real Racing.

2XL and their amazing graphics are back, but did they fix it, are the missing features there?

2XL ATV Offroad ($6.99)
2XL ATV Offroad is the latest from 2XL Games. With it they brings the wonderful graphics that we saw in Supercross. However, Supercross was missing certain crucial features. Does 2XL ATV Offroad suffer the same mistake?

Krazy Kart Racing is considered to be a passable (if not more) kart racer for the iPhone, how does this next one fare?

Shrek Kart ($4.99)
Electronic Arts can flaunt its realistic racing games, and Gameloft can whip up trailers of their upcoming racing games. But what we really needed on this platform was a racing game that had something like…
Ogres and talking Donkey’s in it. Funny enough that’s exactly what Shrek Kart is!
