iOS 5 Release Date News: Magazines Start Showing Up In NewsStand

In a few hours, Apple will finally unleash iOS 5 publicly to the world. One of the new features is a new app called NewsStand in which you can purchase and read digital magazines. For those in beta like me, you should now be able to see some magazines pop up.

“Magazine apps are starting to be updated to appear in the Newsstand feature of iOS 5. In this screenshot, sent to us by reader Shawn, we can see Wired, GQ, and Popular Science apps ready for reading. At the moment, only developers with the iOS 5 developer beta can see Newsstand.”

What magazines are you expecting to pop up in the store? More importantly, which iOS 5 feature are you most excited about?

I’m wondering what the actual formatting of the magazine will be like. I would love to get our magazine over on http://www.previousmagazine.com up on there if possible. I’m assuming you will be able to offer free iAd supported publications.

  That depends on the magazine itself. Newsstand is simply a conduit to existing magazine apps as far as i can tell.

  Yeah I think Joseph’s right, you need to have an existing app setup to get featured in Newsstand.
